Welcome to Baxter Arena. In order to make your visit both pleasant and memorable, this guide will help you discover everything you need to know about Baxter Arena from “A to Z.”
A-Z Guide
Baxter Arena opened to the public in October 2015, the end product of a joint community/university partnership led by Heritage Services of Omaha which raised $90 million for its construction and additional infrastructure improvements.
The arena is a vibrant community asset, serving as the home of University of Nebraska Omaha hockey, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball as well as concerts, civic events, campus recreation, youth hockey, figure skating and curling.
The building seats 7,500 with additional space for standing room. It features a competition/event arena as well as the Holland Ice Community Rink, named in honor of Dick Holland, Omaha resident and lead donor to the project.
The first steel for the arena was erected in the spring of 2014 and during the course of its 18-month construction, neighbors and businesses in Omaha’s bustling Aksarben Village community watched the building take shape south of Center Street and adjacent to the Papio Creek.
In June of 2015, it was announced that Omaha-based Baxter Auto had secured the naming rights as part of a 10-year agreement with the university.
Baxter Arena is the cornerstone of a larger plan for Omaha Athletics on the former Chili Greens property to the west. The area has been expanded on by Omaha Athletics to now include Tal Anderson Field, the new home for Omaha baseball, and Connie Claussen Field, the home of Omaha softball. Both facilities opened in 2021 to now include almost all of UNO’s 15 NCAA Division I sports on campus. Future planning includes tennis courts and an indoor track.
The arena was developed by the Tetrad Property Group of Omaha with HDR serving as the lead architect on the project. Primary construction of the arena was performed by Omaha-based Kiewit, Inc.
Baxter Arena meets or exceeds all structural and service requirements as stipulated by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Restrooms, drinking fountains, phones, ATMs and counters are accessible to guests with disabilities. Additional services are listed below.

As a floor seat ticket holder for volleyball and basketball games, there must be understanding and agreement that the visibility of the seat(s) requires compliance with specific rules that apply to courtside seating.
1. The institution requires that the bearer of a ticket behave in a responsible and considerate manner. Vulgar and abusive language, physical actions that threaten the safety of competitors and other spectators, persons intoxicated by alcohol or other drugs, and those who behave in a disorderly manner will not be tolerated. Individuals displaying such conduct will be ejected from the venue.
2. Any individual showing signs of intoxication will be removed or relocated by game management staff.
3. The institution reserves the right to revoke and/or refuse to sell tickets to any individual, including a season ticket holder, who violates this code of conduct.
4. Individuals seated in the floor seats will not physically threaten or approach any referee, athlete, coach, or otherwise interfere during game play. Such actions will result in a technical foul being assessed against the home team.
5. Items will not be thrown on the court or at a participant or referee. This action also results in a technical foul assessed against the home team. Food and drink must be kept off the playing surface.
6. Game officials or referees, within conference and NCAA rules, can ask game management officials to remove any spectator from any seat who they deem to be threatening in any manner to the safety of the participants in a contest.
7. If any individual in a courtside seat is cited in the above manner, serious action will be taken against both the individual who commits the offense and the ticketholder. Action can include ejection, suspension from future contests, or forfeiture of future rights to purchase the seat.
8. Ticket holders wanting to access or leave their courtside seats should only attempt to do so during the stoppages of play. It is never permissible for ticketholders to walk onto the playing surface during play or to rest feet in the playable area of the court.
9. Courtside seat occupants are asked to remain seated during on-court action, although standing briefly in reaction to a play is permissible.
10. It is never permissible to engage and/or taunt a visiting coach or participant when seated near the opposition’s bench.
11. The conference office has a zero-tolerance policy for any individual seated courtside who engages in improper conduct. Action can include suspension from future contests, including the conference tournament and forfeiture of future rights to purchase courtside seating.
Courtside seating provides fans with exclusive access to the best seats in the venue. In order to enjoy this privilege, the institution asks that ticketholders be considerate of policies when determining guests for specific games. Thank you for your adherence to these guidelines as they will help ensure a positive experience for spectators and competitors.
